Power Fan plunge for Charity

At our adventure ropes course in Knowsley, a team of daring adrenaline junkies are hoping to plunge their way in to the Guinness Book of World Records to raise money for the Merseyside Youth Challenge Trust on Monday 20th April 09.

Ten ‘volunteers’ will hurl themselves down the course’s 14 metre Powerfan in a jumping marathon of eight hours, in the hopes of setting a new Guinness world record for the ‘Longest Accumulative Powerfan Jump.’ Correspondence with the official body’s ‘Record Management Team’ revealed no such attempt has ever been set, so the rules and regulations have been specifically tailored at Aerial Extreme’s request.

To officially set the record, staff must accumulate a minimum requirement of two kilometres to reach the record books…the equivalent of 142 jumps off the Powerfan!

However, management are looking for members of the public to join the team and add their name into this Guinness World of Records. Applicants must be fit and of good health, all entries must be emailed to kspadmin@aerialextreme.co.uk

The record attempt will be videoed and photographed, and witness statements will be submitted to enable the adjudicators to verify the evidence after the event.

Eager to donate funds towards a charity that encourages youngsters to get outdoors and active, the staff at Aerial Extreme came up with this fearless feat to help the Merseyside Youth Challenge Trust.

The Trust supports young people wanting to get involved in outdoor adventure training, with 41% of those attending being classed as ‘at risk’ in terms of their learning or physical abilities, many coming from underprivileged and disadvantaged backgrounds. Their outdoors activity centre allowed for 3,469 children to attend their activities in 2007, but the trusts lack of funding has resulted in them having to turn away groups of children.

Knowsley’s site manager, Becky Allen, said: "I am very proud of my staff here for coming up with such an innovative way to raise money for a worthy charity. The Merseyside Youth Challenge Trust is a great charity to link up with because we believe in what they do. Encouraging people to put down the games console and get some fresh air is what Aerial Extreme is all about. We hope people reading this will see what a great cause the Merseyside Youth Challenge Trust is and sponsor us to keep them providing for the youth in our community.”

The jaw dropping Powerfan plunge at Aerial Extreme is the final obstacle at the UK’s largest adventure rope course of its kind. The site, set in Knowsley Safari Park, boasts 60 fun packed obstacles including zip wires, crash cargo nets, balance beams and wobbly rope bridges.

Extreme Easter Egg Hunt!

Aerial Extreme will be hosting the region’s highest Easter Egg Hunt this season, and it’s open to everyone from Good Friday through to Easter Monday.

Reaching heights of up to 14 metres, the outdoor adventure ropes course is offering a unique and fun way to spend the Easter weekend by placing eggs for customers to find as they make their way around. In addition, management will be hosting a variety of Easter themed games and challenges over the weekend to give customers and spectators an extra special Easter experience at the course.

Instructors have hidden hundreds of the mini chocolate foil-wrapped eggs amongst the course, which will be replenished throughout the day. The bravest adventurers will be grabbing for the eggs as they jump between wobbly platforms, scramble up nets and nip down zip lines – but don’t worry – there will be some at the end if you didn’t manage to collect any!

To join the region’s highest Easter Egg Hunt, you just have to be booked on to the course between 10th and 13th April (inclusive).

“We’ve got loads going on to make Easter great fun at Aerial Extreme. Our revolutionary safety system enables us to hold exciting events like this knowing that participants are strapped in safely at all times.”

Management and staff will be dressing up for the occasion too, so look out for larger than average bunny rabbits hopping around!

For more information or to book your place for the Easter weekend you can do so online or by giving us a call on 0845 652 1736!

A Hearty Success

Local leisure business Aerial Extreme has ‘bucked’ the recession and announced record company figures during the recent half term – a positive indication for the leisure industry for 2009.

The outdoor adventure ropes course has enjoyed its best Spring half term attendance since opening in 2006, with just under a 100% increase in visits compared to the same time in 2008.

Last year saw 364 children and adults visit Aerial Extreme at Willen Lake in comparison to 704 this year, smashing both company records and targets: "We are thrilled with these figures – it’s fantastic to say we have beaten the recession and proved it’s not all bad news for businesses. The Spring half term figures are a good indication to estimate the trend for the year ahead." said Site Manager Ria Bugg.

In addition, the course is celebrating raising a generous £123.80 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) during half term and a total of £237.77 across all four of the company’s sites throughout England.

Aerial Extreme supported BHF’s ‘Red for Heart’ campaign by transforming the site and taking on a red theme for the week, playing fun games for charity and offering information on the benefits of exercise to maintaining a healthy heart. "We felt the cause was particularly relevant to us because Aerial Extreme is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time. We would like to thank all our customers for their support," explained Ria.
Following the government’s recently launched Change4Life campaign to encourage people to Eat Well; Move More and Live Longer and with the average person burning over 500 calories an hour at Aerial Extreme, the course is a fun and effective way to keep the pounds off and keep your heart healthy.

Mother’s Go Free!

For the third year running, Aerial Extreme is treating mothers to a FREE session on the course this Mother’s Sunday.

The adventure ropes course has offered mums free sessions on this annual day for the past two years, which has proven a huge success and a great alternative to the traditional flowers and chocolates – and a much cheaper option.

On Sunday 22nd March, sons and daughters can book their mum on at Aerial Extreme by prebooking them a slot.

“This is a fantastic alternative to the traditional presents exchanged every Mother’s Day. It was a great success last year and we promised to bring it back again for 2009, which we hope will be particularly well received in the recession," says Site Manager Ria Bugg.

So, if you fancy seeing your mum swinging 40ft in the air and tackling suspended obstacles from tightropes and zip lines to climbing walls and cargo nets, this is just what you need!

Already this year, the site at Willen Lake has seen the introduction of a brand new log cabin reception and is looking forward to the addition of a colossal 100ft Powerfan ‘Goliath’ in the next few weeks.

Ria adds: "Aerial Extreme is designed to suit those of all ages so it is ideal for parents as well as the children. The course is packed with exciting and challenging obstacles so why not give mum something a bit different that she’ll never forget this year?”

From the beginning of March, Aerial Extreme is open 7 days a week for the 2009 season, from 10am – 4pm.

So, treat your hard-working mother to something different this year and you won’t even have to tell her it’s for free – mum’s the word.

To redeem a free session on Aerial Extreme on Sunday 22nd March, either the son or daughter must book a time slot and attend with you – whether a participant or spectator.

Red For Heart Campaign

AERIAL EXTREME GOES RED FOR HEART
Not only is February a time for Valentine’s, it is also National Heart Month and Aerial Extreme will be helping to save lives by supporting the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Red for Heart campaign throughout the school Spring half term – starting Saturday 14th (Valentine’s Day).
Aerial Extreme is joining the government’s Change4Life campaign to encourage people to Eat Well; Move More and Live Longer. The aim is to prevent people from becoming overweight by encouraging them to eat better and move more, which is where Aerial Extreme can offer its facilities as a great active outdoor exercise.
The adventure ropes courses are holding a fun week that will promote this message, raise money for the BHF, and awareness of the importance of exercise to maintain a healthy heart.

Equipment will be provided so customers can have their own blood pressure measured, experts will work out how many calories you have burned by completing the course and visitors can take part in ‘hearty’ games with a chance to win prizes each day.
Research shows inactivity doubles the risk of developing coronary heart disease as much as smoking does. Increasing activity levels has multiple benefits that can improve your sleep habits, strengthen bones and muscles, reduce stress and ensure better independence in later life.
Government figures have revealed that two-thirds of adults in the UK are overweight or obese, and this number is set to rise. If we carry on as we are, 90 percent of today’s children could be overweight or obese by 2050. The government’s campaign is encouraging everyone to "address the rise in obesity for the sake of the future health of our children. The importance of health care practitioners to the success of Change4Life cannot be over-emphasised.”

With the average person burning over 500 calories an hour at Aerial Extreme, the courses represent a fun and effective way to keep the pounds off and maintain a healthy heart.
Jackie Skeel, Head of National Campaigns at the British Heart Foundation, said: "Thanks to Aerial Extreme going Red for Heart the money raised will help save lives and fight the UK’s biggest killer. Everyone can get involved with the campaign so please encourage your colleagues or friends to take part and help the BHF make a real difference.”

Find out what happened when journalist Jo Kessel & her family visited Willen Lake!

“Heights are not my thing, which makes being at this adrenaline-junky heaven a conundrum. It all stems from an accusation that our family never does anything exciting and couldn’t we, for once, do something different? Asked what they would liek to do, our five-year-old twins Nathalie and Gabriel said "climb tress”. Searching for something ‘different’ we found Aerial Extreme!

Now that we’re here receiving a safety briefing, it’s no consolation that we’re doing the easier three-metre high "Budding Extremist" course because of the age and height of our children. Walking across a rope even three metres up still looks terrifying.

Smelling fear (well, mine at least), instructor Neil quickly reassures us. "Don’t worry, you’re attached to the safety wire at all times." The kids are off before we can chest-beat "aaaah-eee-ahhh-eee-ahhhhhh" – Gabriel first, followed by his sister, with grown-up slagging behind. Their initial caution gives way to carefree abandon, hot-footing over stepping stones and scrambling across high mesh climbing frames. Even falling fails to dampen Nathalie’s spirits. Cycling, legs mid-air, waiting for assistance she squeals with glee, "I love dangling!”

The muscles in my left arm ache from clutching the safety rope for dear life but i tell my husband Marc: "I’m actually starting to enjoy this!" Course completed with nothing broken and filled with a sense of satisfaction at having done something "different”, it should have been enough. But then Neil points to a 45ft high tower called the "Fan Descender”. "Who wants to do that?" he asks. "Me," the twins squeal. My husband’s no fool, claiming that the car metre needs topping up. I, too, want to wimp out, protesting that the twins are too young, but apparently there’s no age restriction.

That’s how a vertigo sufferer ends up toes perched at the edge of a high platform as Neil counts down "one, two, three, JUMP." That’s how time freezes, chidlren expectant and mother reluctant, but against all odds lift-off happens. Not only that, the white-knuckle descent gives such a buzz that even a thud landing fails to bring me back down to earth.

We all had a ball (yep, the twins fan descended too) and Aerial Extreme plans to open more centres next year. With three out of their courses open all seasons, dress up warm as it’s a great outdoor winter activity. According to Neil, a course made slippery from rain or sleet can be even more exciting! It is a great venue for older children too as they also have a challenging 10m high "Extremist" course. So would we come back? You bet. Would I go "extreme”? Not sure. Would I jump from the 90ft fan descender coming next year? Hmmm…..”

Jade finds adventure Extreme-ly scary!

She maybe all smiles now – but when Big Brother’s Jade Goody took to the course at Willen Lake, Milton Keynes there were waterworks.

The 27 year old could not hide her tears when faced with desending a Zip wire at Aerial Extreme’s outdoor adventure course last week.

Jade was filming her Living with Jade Goody show for the Living channel on Sky.

“She was great fun" says Aerial Extreme’s manager Antoine Borysiewicz "and she enjoyed the whole day – once she got over her intial fear."

Knowsleys 1st Birthday

Knowsley’s Aerial Extreme adventure ropes course is celebrating its 1st birthday on Sunday 27th July with a free BBQ!

Anyone that is booked on the course that day will get an extra treat of complimentary food as part of the manager’s way of saying ‘thanks’ to everyone for their support over the last 12 months.

Since opening, the course, next to Knowsley Safari Park, has welcomed over 20,000 visitors. Out of that number, approximately 57% have been male and 43% female. The youngest person on the course celebrated her 6th birthday on the day and the oldest ‘Extremist’ was 87 years old. The person with the highest number of visits has been to their course 23 times and comes from St Helens and the strangest object that staff have found at the top of the 40ft poles was a ladies silver bracelet.

Site manager, Becky Allen said: "The course is extremely popular with everyone no matter what their age is or ability. The best part is that you can chose which level you take on and once you build your confidence, you can progress to the very top.

“Over the past year we have had a great response from people and this Sunday is our way of saying thanks to them for their support and here’s to another 12 months of Aerial Extreme.”

Aerial Extreme’s summer BBQ will start from 12pm until 3pm. Anyone wanting to take advantage of their complimentary food offer must book in advance by calling 0845 6521736 or booking on this website.
